Civics & Geography
OVERVIEW: This course will survey history, politics, ideas, economics, cultural developments, religion, individuals, technology, and society in multiple contexts from Colonial Pennsylvania -The Industrial Revolution.
UNIT 1 – GEOGRAPHY
The unit of geography will cover Pennsylvania geography, the land regions of Pennsylvania and the five themes of geography.
UNIT 2 – COLONIAL PENNSYLVANIA & WILLIAM PENN
The unit of colonial Pennsylvania will cover the early relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans, as well as the religious freedoms, various culture and ways of life for early Pennsylvanians.
UNIT 3 – FRENCH & INDIAN WAR
The unit on the French and Indian War will cover the land and resource dispute between England and France, with the Native Americans being caught in the middle. This is a precursor to the escalation of tensions between England and the Colonists following the war regarding the associated costs.
UNIT 4 – REVOLUTION FROM A PENNSYLVANIA PERSPECTIVE
The unit on the Revolutionary War will cover the strains of British Taxation, the desire to break away, the War for Independence and the struggle to create government stability.
UNIT 5 – UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION & BILL OF RIGHTS
The unit on the Constitution will cover the Constitutional Convention, the ideals of the Constitution, the struggle for Constitutional Ratification and the necessity of the Bill of Rights.
UNIT 6 – GOVERNMENT & CIVIL RIGHTS
The unit on Government will cover the specific functions and relationship of the three branches, as well as the evolution of civil rights and political parties.
UNIT 7 – TRANSPORTATION, INDUSTRY & NATURAL RESOURCES OF PENNSYLVANIA
This unit of will cover methods and modes of transportation, the Industrial Revolution in Pennsylvania as well as the natural resources necessary for fueling it.
